1. What is the function of the CPU?
Central Processing Unit (CPU), or sometimes just called processor, is a description of a class of logic machines that can execute computer programs.
2. What was the name of the first CPU?
The first microprocessor was the Intel 4004, introduced in 1971.
3. Referring to the graph on page 2 of the article, describe how the speed of CPU’s has changed.
The first microprocessor to make it into a home computer was the Intel 8080, a complete 8-bit computer on one chip, introduced in 1974,The Pentium 4 can execute any piece of code that ran on the original 8088, but it does it about 5,000 times faster!
4. What does MIPS measure?
MIPS stands for "millions of instructions per second" and is a rough measure of the performance of a CPU.
5. Research (Google it) what is a dual core processor, what is multitasking and how do the two work together.
A dual-core processor contains two cores, and a quad-core processor contains four cores. A multi-core microprocessor implements multiproceesing in a single physical package. A processor with all cores on a single die is called a monolithic processor.
